Electric Top Loading Kilns
A process of continued improvement has resulted in many innovations in the design of the top loading kiln ranges as shown below.
New Features
The easy-to- lift lids now have gas struts to take all the weight out of the lid, floating hinges give sufficient play to minimise the stresses on the lid reducing the risk of cracking bricks.
The lids are supported on robust steel arms from front to back increasing the strength and evenly distributing the weight further reducing the stress on the bricks.
Insulation has been redesigned, there is a now generous 100mm of brick and backup insulation, greater than the industry standard, giving extremely efficient use of power. The smaller Hobby kilns have 83mm insulation.
Floors made from Ultralite granular insulation for more efficient firings and easy replacement in the event of glaze spillage.
Permanently open air vents for clean atmosphere, and vents with plugs for speedy cooling.
Deeper element grooves now minimise the risk of elements falling into the kiln.
New look, larger front box gives better ventilation and protection to the electronics and revised wiring layout gives easier access for maintenance.
Additional Features
All Topworkers are fitted with castors for easy movement, two castors are lockable for secure positioning.
Industry standard A1 element wire is used to ensure long life and the elements are of different specification top to bottom, (balanced) to give very even firings. All Topworker elements are universal voltage 220-250 volts to minimise effects of voltage drop.
Harting HAN 7 socket makes it easy to change and upgrade controllers.
Alongside the new innovations, Potterycrafts kilns still incorporate the traditional skills and knowledge accumulated over years in the Potteries.
The robust quality of these top loading kilns appeals not only to craft potters but also to schools where they are now recognised as a highly economical alternative to front loaders.
This is a range of high performance, low maintenance kilns offered at very competitive prices.
New Hobby and small top loading kilns
There are three models in this category, Mercury, Aurora and Comet, each is available with different controllers making a total of six different variations. Mercury is a fantastic entry level kiln and because it is robustly built is also a popular production kiln with jewellery makers. MERCURY and Aurora are “plug in and go” kilns running off domestic 13amp sockets. Comet needs a mains connection to a 'cooker' socket.
New Topworker Kilns
There are five kilns in the New Topworker range, all are manufactured to withstand daily firings to the high standards demanded by professional potters in craft and education. All are small enough to run off normal household supply electricity wired directly to the mains and yet will fire comfortably to cone 10, high stoneware temperature. If required all these kilns can be supplied wired for 3phase industrial supply.
Oval Topworker Kilns
The largest size possible in top loading kilns is the oval configuration. These two kilns have the features common to our smaller sizes such as gas strut supported lids, castors and high specification elements. They are designed to be workhorses for the busy production potter and are excellent for larger work.
